Please forgive the listserv / email broadcast, but we wanted to tell you about an exciting new site we’ve developed for people like you!

http://RemixAmerica.org is the new home for remixers and remixes. We

are a non-partison, non-profit project of Declare Yourself. Through

RemixAmerica.org you can participate in the new political medium of video remixes, mashups and video comments. At our site, you can easily create your own remixes, discuss and “talk back” to videos using your

webcam.

From Vote Different to will.i.am’s “Yes We Can” to Obama Girl to “The

Empire Strikes Barack,” Voter-Generated Video has had a huge impact on

the campaign. We at http://RemixAmerica.org have recognized that

impact and welcome you to share your voice.

Through our “American Playlist,” we make it easy to combine today’s

Hey everyone, this is my first post to videomix.es and I’m excited to present to you,
Todosantos!

Originally from Caracas, Venezuela and now based in Brooklyn, Todosantos consists of 3 energetic, rhythmic and most importantly, talented youths named, Pharaoh, Purple Gold Pony, Peach.
To get an idea of these guys, their LP came with 3D glasses to look at the cover. They use what they call pods, a combination of music and video into one multimedia experience, and perform live music with a full sounding, acidic, sensory trip! Check out their myspace as well, you’ll get a good idea of their style.

Tutorial: Cutting to the Beat in Final Cut Pro

An oldie but a goodie, Ken Stone’s Cutting to the Beat with FCP tutorial will be a big help for those wanting to cut their DVJ loops in Final Cut. Even experienced FCP editors will benefit from Ken’s tips for using all of the timeline tools (the ripple edit, the roll, extend edit) to your advantage. If you don’t have a pre-made music track or you’re cutting something non-musical, e.g., the voice of our fearless leader, you can make yourself a click track in GarageBand or Audacity to sync to.

Video: bank commercial made in Max/MSP/Jitter

This mashup-of-crashups AV commercial for a Dutch bank was made completely in Max/MSP/Jitter — no post-production. Recognize that tune? It’s Katrina and the Waves’ “Walking on Sunshine”.

Some more info about the video from one of the developers of the software used to make it, Mattijs Kneppers:

The composition was made by Eboman, using a general solution for video sampling that we are developing. My current role in our little company (www.smadsteck.nl) is to implement the software and coordinate the other developers, not to communicate with customers. All I know is that they were looking for something special and that they are very satisfied with the final result.

In response to my request for a screenshot of the patch, Mattijs said:

I’m afraid a screenshot is going to be hard. The patches are really big. The end user interface is Logic, which communicates with Max via Pluggo, with UDP and MIDI.

What I like about this composition is that the used functionality is very basic (triggering a movie and displaying it on a video plane is the one of the first things you try in Jitter). But to realize this specific video (to add the funk, to be creative), you need to be able to ‘jam’ with your video fragments. And that’s where max patching becomes serious software development.
